Rome The Eternal City

Roma a Cidade Eterna. Roma estava na lista de sítios obrigatórios a visitar. A oportunidade surgiu e não podíamos dizer que não. Esta viagem tem assim um sabor especial visto que foi o presente de aniversário de uma amiga e ela nem sabia de nada! Não será necessário dizer que ela adorou! Foram apenas três dias, três dias intensos, de muita caminhada para tentar conhecer o mais possível e frio muito frio à mistura. Roma é uma cidade incrível, capital de Itália, considerada o berço da civilização ocidental, dona de um património sem igual de igrejas, museus e ruínas. Uma cidade cheia de emoções com muitas atracções culturais, gastronómicas (que eu adorei), compras, lazer e diversão.

São várias as atracções em Roma: 

Fontana di Trevi, a maior fonte barroca de Roma e provavelmente a mais famosa do mundo. Diz a lenda que se atirarem uma moeda para a fonte voltarão a Roma. Claro que atirámos a moedinha agora é esperar...  Outra atracção é o Panteão, um edifício maravilhoso e muito bem preservado da Roma Antiga. Construído para ser um templo de adoração dos deuses mais tarde com a transição para o cristianismo a estrutura passou a abrigar uma igreja católica romana.  O Coliseu, umas das principais atracções, considerada uma das Sete Maravilhas do Mundo, palco das lutas e jogos dos gladiadores na antiguidade. A fachada exterior é maravilhosa mas  aconselho e diria mesmo que é obrigatório uma visita ao interior. Trastevere é um dos bairros mais agradáveis de Roma. Um bairro muito tradicional romana cheio de vida, repleto de bares e restaurantes. Caminhar pelas ruas de Trastevere é uma experiência fantástica. Obrigatório almoçar ou jantar uma deliciosa pasta ou pizza!! A Basílica de São Pedro é outro ponto obrigatório de visita, é o edifício religioso mais importante do mundo. Foi construída entre 1506 e 1626 e teve a colaboração de grandes nomes da arte italiana. A cúpula é vista praticamente de qualquer ponto da cidade. Aconselho a visitarem a cúpula, uma escadaria enorme, super apertada, mas uma experiência incrível e do topo uma vista de cortar a respiração. Vale a pena todo o esforço, a vista é magnifica mas confesso que uma vez deve ser suficiente. Não tenciono subir aquelas escadas novamente! 

E a gastronomia, MAMMA MIA, a comida é deliciosa. Foram três dias mas tentei comer o máximo possível, provavelmente regressei com uns quilinhos a mais. Aquela pasta é divinal e eles valorizam muito o tempo em redor da mesa, agora percebo o porquê. Comida, amigos e um bom vinho! What else?

Roma é assim um verdadeiro museu a céu aberto, respira charme por todo o lado ! A minha amiga Rita adorou a surpresa e nós esperamos que a lenda se mantenha porque Roma é sitio para voltar.

Miles and Smiles Away

Rome is called the Eternal City. Rome was on my bucket list of places to visit. The opportunity came up and we couldn't say no. This travel has a different taste because it was a birthday gift for a friend and she didn't have a clue! Of course she loved it!  It was only three days, three intense days, a lot of walking to try to know as much as possible and very cold weather! Rome is an incredible city, capital of Italy, considered the cradle of Western Civilization, owner of a unique heritage of churches, museums, ruins. A city full of emotions with so many cultural and gastronomic attractions,  (which I loved)  shopping, leisure and fun.

There are several attractions in Rome:

Trevi Fountain, the largest baroque fountain in Rome and probably the most famous in the world. The original legend says  if  we throw a coin to the fountain we will return to Rome. Of course we threw the coin now we need to wait ... Another attraction is the Pantheon, a wonderful and very well preserved building of Ancient Rome. Built to be a temple of worship of the gods, later with the transition to Christianity the structure came to house a Roman Catholic church. The Colosseum, one of the main attractions, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, it was used mainly for Gladiatorial events where trained Gladiators would fight against each other to their deaths, watched over by the thousands of people that could fit inside the venue. Theatrical performances were also put on there for Royalty, as were animal hunts and fighting, not forgetting executions of criminals. Trastevere is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Rome. A very traditional Roman neighborhood full of life, full of bars and restaurants. Walking the streets of Trastevere is a fantastic experience. You must have lunch or dinner here!! St. Peter's Basilica is another must visit place, it is the most important religious building in the world. It was built between 1506 and 1626 and had the collaboration of great names of Italian art. Climbing to the top is possible and a great experience. The dome is seen practically from any point of the city. I would advise to visit the dome, the climb to the top of the dome proceeds through progressively narrower and sloping stairs. It is an amazing experience the view is breathtaking.  It's worth all the effort, the view is great but I must admit once is enough, I do not intend to climb those stairs again!

And the gastronomy, MAMMA MIA, the food is delicious. I was there just for three days but I tried to eat as much as possible, I probably came back with a few extra pounds. The pasta and pizza are great and what the Italians say about spending time around the table, now I understand why. Food, friends and good wine! What else?

Rome is a true museum in the open air, breathes architecture everywhere. It was a nice experience and if you haven't been there you have to go, you won't regret ! Believe me!
